MLA CE week 7

Podcasting is perhaps one of the most useful technologies we have used to far. It would be very easy to record instructions on basic searching techniques to have available for patrons to access at their convenience. or some topic or service that the library is trying to promoteI can also envision recording the hospital's weekly continuing medical education lectures and aving them available as a podcast for physicians to view at their convenience.

Youtube was a bit overwhelming. There is a lot of first class junk and some good things, I'm sure. However, it takes a lot of time to be able to weed out the good stuff from the junk. I think users would be too distracted to look for library videos on Youtube.

MLA CE Week 6

This week was indeed an easy week. Posting to Facebook was fun and easy and did not require too much 'sweat equity'. I'm not sure how much use this would be to my small community hospital library where I strugle to get people to use the online resources. However, I imagine it could be useful to transmit medical images and/or photos.

MLA CE Week 5

I was absolutely amazed by Google Docs and the potential for networking documents, and even presentations. The ability to create spread sheets and/or documents at any computer anywhere in the world is very appealing to an increasing number of users. As gasoline prices continue to increase, it is much more efficient to collaborate on documents right from your own livingroom or office. This makes documents truly portable because you can access them even on a PDA.

This will definitely be a force in the future although there will still be the old stalwarts who insist on using Microsoft and other word processing pc based programs especially because they do not want others to be able to view or edit their documents.

MAL CE Week 4

This was, so far, the only site I can see any practical use for. It is relatively easy to set up and use and has some potential real value to a library. I can see people researching a difficult topic and going to delicious to see if anyone has found and tagged a good site about that topic.
It is also very useful that the bookmarks travel with you and are not just on one computer. If that computer fails, you could be in big trouble.
