Social networking is an amazing concept that may soon replace the telephone!! Actually I think it probably has replaced the telephone in households where there is one or more 'millenium generation'. However, for old folks like me, it just requires too much time to check all the time.
Even though I will probably not become hooked on any of these sites, I can see their usefulness. They are good places to connect with friends, long lost or current. Employers can use them to communicate with employees, post events and meetings. Businesses can use them to post current events, services, etc. There seems to be an unlimited use for these sites. All you need is the time to create and maintain them.
After opening my account in Linkedin, I looked for friends in my undergraduate college and found 3 listings for my graduation year. One of the listings was from my roommate whom I had not heard from in many years!!
I do not forsee my library having a facebook or myspace site. I am in a small community hospital that is not very technologically friendly. The staff is on the older side and not very receptive to technology. I don't think the physicians or nurses have time to check sites like these.

MLA CE Week 2
Blog: is an interactive website that provides news or commentary on a particular subject. It often combines text, images, and links to other web pages and blogs
Wiki: specialized site that allows an individual or group to share a running log of events and personal thoughts and insights, similar to an online diary.
Wikis are often used to plan family reunions, to act as a reference/procedure manual that can be shared and easily updated, to list events, services and/or instructions.
Blogs are better for updated news, to compile a running account of events like a diary or journal, and share thoughts on subjects.

MLA CE - Week 1
RSS feeds could be used to develop a "one stop shopping place" for certain medical topics of interest such as pediatrics or nursing administration. It is another way of providing concentrated information. It is a way to getthe latest information from many focused sites without actually having to go to the individual sites on a daily basis.
It could also be used in place of the Current Awareness Program by having the TOC sent to the site automatically instead of copying and forwarding.
I think the blog and RSS feeds could get out of hand very quickly.
